Fernpeople

Fernpeople cover

In the second book of the Montaland Series, the scouts suspect a small group of fernpeople are hiding around a lake in an uninhabited region of the mountain world. The green-veined people have to be found. They once served an evil queen. Who knows what they might do now to protect themselves!

Meanwhile, a small sheep farm in the Kingdom of Mount Pasture looks like a peaceful place but it isn’t—not this morning anyway. Eleven-year-old Benk is furious with his brother Alland for putting him in charge of five pregnant sheep just so Alland can travel to another kingdom to woo a princess. A princess!  On a sheep farm! It’s a doomed trip from the start and if there is difficulty with a birth, Benk will have to stick his hand up the rear end of a ewe. He’ll never forgive Alland for this. Never! And when the Maker keeps at him, Benk throws out, “Catch you later,” and closes his mind.

Sixteen-year-old Janna is furious with Alland too. “I’ll stop him,” she vows, but the end result of her efforts is two weeks in the most boring kingdom in the mountain world. The first night back home, something hits her on the head, knocking her to the floor. Janna has one dazed vision of a green-veined arm coming around her. Then she is hoisted roughly up and loses consciousness.

Benk “borrows” a horse and leaves Mount Pasture. Wolves start howling in the uninhabited lake region. And Janna, held as a hostage in a hidden cave, doesn’t know how she can keep going.
